The Splash Zone

Water-Themed Park Design | Waukegan, Illinois

The Waukegan Park District contracted HDG to revamp this flagship community park. The team saw the project all the way from schematic design through construction phase services. As a replacement for an aging pool, HDG added a recirculating splash tower / splash pad that could be operated separately based on seasonal conditions and/or staffing. The team also created a new highly-customized building, a towering playground, poured-in-place surfacing, parking improvements, picnic shelters, site furniture, shade sails, drinking fountain, fencing, bocce, seat walls, and robust landscape. Many of these elements were placed so that they would be visible from the nearby road to draw people into the park. This was especially important because this site is quite deep into the park from the road.
