The Paducah Sports Park will include 6 high school baseball fields, 2 softball fields and 6 multi-use fields. The Bluegrass Downs site will be developed into a baseball /softball facility. The existing Bluegrass Downs grandstand and surrounding area will be converted to a facility clubhouse and will include stadium seating, a restaurant, gathering areas for teams, equipment stores and a champions plaza. The architectural style for the dugouts, restroom/concession and maintenance buildings will be reminiscent of the original horse stables on the site. Site amenities will include batting cages, shade structures, an interactive plaza/ fountain, play structures, conveniently located parking and landscaping. This park was named after Dr. William Stuart Nelson an African American community member and accomplished physician and peace activist. A wetland will be re-established in the north east corner of the park to accommodate storm water run-off and provide a naturalized recreation area.
