Facing the end of its useful life and beyond repair, the City of Davenport decided to remove a beloved neighborhood pool, turning to Hitchcock Design Group to reimagine the space as a dynamic play area and splash pad. The goal was not only to bring a fresh, vibrant aesthetic but also to preserve the community’s social spirit, which had centered around the pool for years. The design repurposes the existing bathhouse to provide creature comforts while introducing a variety of exciting site features. A new elevated play environment invites children to explore, climb, and create memories, with standout elements like an angled net climber, ADA-accessible spinner, and embankment play areas. The splash pad offers a refreshing centerpiece for fun and interaction, complemented by shade shelters that encourage relaxation and community gathering. Aesthetics and functionality merge seamlessly with a unique leaf-themed play surface, sturdy perimeter fencing, site furniture, planter islands, and a thoughtfully designed landscape. Together, these features create a welcoming, inclusive space where families can come together, play, and connect—ensuring the park remains a treasured destination for generations to come.
