Park Enhancements | Ottawa, IL

Allen Park is a beloved 21-acre community park located on Ottawa’s south side. Allen Park is flanked by two iconic bridges and overlooks the scenic Illinois River. The park enhancements include a paved quarter-mile looped walking trail along the banks of the Illinois River. This accessibility path leads to several existing shelters and gaming area(s) on the main level of the park. First gaming area includes chess/checkers table(s) and a ping pong table. Second area consists of 4 bean bag toss stations. These gaming areas are located adjacent to existing shelters providing enjoyment for all ages. The ping pong table and cluster of 4 bag toss stations will be the first of its kind in the city. Upper Park bluff area improvements include a new playground and hillside play space with accessible poured in place rubber surfacing. The accessible walk winds through recreational amenities with views to existing art sculptures and interpretive signage. A shade pavilion adjacent to the playground provides a comfortable gathering spot to watch kids play and relaxation spot with bench swing oriented to a scenic overlook. The stone council ring seating area will match the stone of an existing shelter creating a cohesive feel in the park and provide a contemplative spot to reflect and overlook the Illinois River. New native plantings and interpretive signage will educate residents about the Illinois River, plants, and pollinators.
