The mission of the East Side Sports Complex is to meet Iowa City’s need for a home to its highly active and growing baseball community, while supporting many other significant sports programs, clubs, events and activities. In addition, the park will cater to neighborhood needs by providing walkable recreational experiences. The complex features high-quality offerings including ten baseball fields, 4 natural turf soccer fields and 6 flag football fields. This field line-up is supported by themed gateways, batting cages, warm-up areas, sports-lighting, concessions, restrooms, shelters, a championship plaza, spectator seating and a 500+ paved and overflow parking capacity. In addition, this field mix can assist with City-wide sportsfield consolidation. Water quality features and native landscaping, modelling best-practices for sustainable landscapes, host 1.75 miles of handicapped accessible, multi-purpose trails amenitized with fitness stations, interpretive features, shelters and site furnishings. A destination playground offers age-appropriate, imaginative play experiences and shaded seating for caregivers. A dog run rounds out the proposed amenity offerings.
