Village of Shorewood Riverfront Master Plan and Route 52 / Route 59 Corridor Study

Project Overview
What an exciting time for Shorewood!  The riverfront has long been ready to contribute to the quality of life of the community and Village leaders have undertaken the preparation of a Master Plan that will define the vision of the unique area where the DuPage River intersects Illinois Route 52 and Illinois Route 59. The plan will create opportunities to strengthen the identity of the Village of Shorewood and make use of the rich river resources that abound in the Village of Shorewood.

The scope of the study will be along the Riverfront and Route 59 from Hammel Woods to I-80 and along Route 52 from Brookshore Drive to I-55.

Once complete, the master plan will illustrate the scope, scale, character, and potential long range vision for access to and improvements within the planning area. The plan will identify budget, policy, phasing, financing, and promotional tools needed to successfully achieve the plan goals, starting with tools that will help within the next 5 years.

The process will be an energetic community-centered approach. This is your community and you are invited to participate. The study is broken into four main phases; Overall Project, Recreation Areas, Corridor Areas, and Master Plan Summary. Within these four phases, the project team will perform a detailed site analysis of the corridors, gather available data, and seek public and board input. This information will be used to establish a program and vision for the project area to guide decisions. The project team will then focus on the Recreation Areas, preparing land use plans and detailed master plans of key areas. That same approach will be applied along the Route 59 Corridor Areas, and the two blended into one cohesive final report. Close coordination and multiple meetings will occur between the project team, Village staff, and the adjacent stakeholders to build group consensus throughout the process.

We Welcome Your Feedback
